Prof. G. T. Wendell, of Fort Mill, S.C. has been elected principal of the school. Prof. Wendell is a graduate of Furman University and has had three years of successful experience teaching in this State. Mrs. Wendell, who is also a very efficient teacher, has been elected as teacher of the first grade. Four full years of high-school work will be taught this year. Four trucks will be used in transportation of pupils.

The foregoing is inaccurate in that it refers to a "Yanceyville High School." Yes, the new building would include the upper grades, but it also included the elementary grades. Note the reference to Mrs. Wendell teaching the first grade. The school actually was called the "Bartlett Yancey School" and is the building shown herewith, which in 1935 when a separate Bartlett Yancey High School was built, became the Bartlett Yancey Elementary School (demolished in the 1958).

"I remember this well, including the local black men hired to separate, clean, and stack the bricks. My first five school years were in that old building. Sixth grade (Mrs. Ruth Witty) was in the new elementary school building that stands today. The new building was functional but had no soul."
