Oct 12, 2010 - 06:52:31 pm CDT: Yanceyville - Ruby Garner Rudd, 86, went home to be with the Lord Friday October 8, 2010 at the Village of Brookwood, Burlington, N.C. following a lengthy illness. She was born to the late Edgar Garner and Lena Brown Garner. She was a native of Davidson County educated in the county schools, devoted homemaker for her husband and children, and for several years was a preschool teacher after her children were educated. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Yanceyville.
She was the loving wife of Hassel Rudd, mother of two daughters, Gloria Rudd Maples and husband Thom of Houston, Texas, Betty Rudd Walker and husband Brent of Cary, N.C., and one son, Donald Thomas Rudd and wife Vicki of LaVerne, Calif., also surviving are two sisters Katherine Kiger of Greensboro, Lavon Dockham of Salisbury, and a brother Leon Garner and wife Peggy of Lexington. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Diehl.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Yanceyville conducted by Rev. Claude Harrelson and Pastor Phil Kelley. Interment was at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the church service. The family received friends Sunday from 6-7:30 pm at Harrelson Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 133 Lake Haven Drive, Yanceyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alamance Caswell Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to First Baptist Church of Yanceyville. Harrelson Funeral Service is assisting the Rudd family with arrangements.
