Hubert Vernon "H.V." Massengill

Born July 6, 1923
Died November 20, 2004

Hubert Vernon (H.V.) Massengill, Sr. 81, died at his home in Troy, NC on Saturday, November 20, 2004 following a brief illness. A Masonic Memorial Service was held at First Baptist Church, Troy, NC Monday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. prior to visitation with the family lasting until 8:30 p.m. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. James B. Gibson and Rev. Eddie Brackett Tuesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Troy. Interment will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.

H.V. was born in Pine Level, NC on July 6, 1923. After graduating from Pine Level High School in 1942, he served honorably abroad the USS Hornet during WWII until his discharge in 1946. He retired after 40 years with Carolina Power and Light Company. H.V. was very active in the North Carolina Masonic fraternity from the time he was raised a Master Mason in 1953. He served as District Deputy Grand Master and District Deputy Grand Lecturer, served four different Lodges as master, and served on the Board of Custodians of the Grand Lodge. H.V. served the Town Of Troy for 21 years on the Town Board of Commissioners and currently Mayor Pro-Tem. He was a part-time employee of Pugh Funeral Home for over 15 years.

Mr. Massengill is survived by sons Vernon Massengill and wife Brenda, Michael Massengill and wife Sue, and a daughter Lynne Griffith and husband Gene; Stepchildren Jeannie Page and husband Rick, Joyce Ross and husband Neil, Ralph Reynolds and wife Susan; two sisters Doris Mae Summerlin, and Betty McKeel; two brothers Norman and Theron Massengill; six grandchildren and six step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lynwood Massengill.
