Hubert Vernon (H.V.) Massengill, Sr. 81, died at his home in Troy, NC on Saturday, November 20, 2004 following a brief illness. A Masonic Memorial Service was held at First Baptist Church, Troy, NC Monday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. prior to visitation with the family lasting until 8:30 p.m. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. James B. Gibson and Rev. Eddie Brackett Tuesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Troy. Interment will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.

May 25, 2010 - 05:37:05 pm CDT (The Caswell Messenger): Frances Wray Saunders, 89, formerly of 432 Vinson Road, died Sunday May 23, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born in Caswell County May 10, 1921 to the late Joseph and Rosa Murphy Wray. She worked in several Caswell County school cafeterias and was of Baptist faith. Funeral Service will be 2 pm Wednesday at Harrelson Funeral Service Chapel, Yanceyville, conducted by Rev. Barry Lane. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruffin.

It will be presented for the first time at the group's annual meeting September 16-18 in Hampton, Virginia.

Matkins Meat Processing (Caswell County, North Carolina)

Matkins Meat, Inc. was founded in 1956 by Leonard Matkins and Associates and his son Jerry has been running the business for the past 40 years. Matkins Meat provides custom processing for as many as 226 farmers throughout the state, including for beef, swine, goat, sheep, buffalo, ostrich and emu. Matkins Meat collaborates with Caswell County to house and operate state-of-the-art labeling, packaging and meat processing equipment provided by funding from the Golden LEAF Foundation. They are anticipating being able to expand their custom value-added meat processing services considerably in the summer of 2010.

In the Name of God Amen, I Richard Brookes of the County of Caswell and state of North Carolina, Being in a low state of health, but of perfect sense and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the blessing. But taking into Consideration the shortness and Uncertainty of this Transitory Life, and that it is appointed for all Men once to die, do make Constitute and ordain this my last will and Testament to be peformed, In manner and form following that is to say first and Principally I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be Buried in Decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executors whom I shall hereafter nominate and appoint - and unto such worldly goods as it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me in this life with I Give Dimiss and Depose of the same in Manner and form following and first my Desire is that all my Lawful Debts be paid, ....

Herbert Berkley Watlington (died 1 May 2010)

Herbert Berkley Watlington of 5821 Allison Road died Saturday at the Brian Center. Survivors are: beloved wife of 35 years, Annie Mims Watlington; two daughters, Mary Watlington Elmore (Donnell), Melissa Melody Watlington; two sons, Herbert Watlington, Jr., Michael Anthony Watlington; stepdaughter, Norma Jean Coleman (Haywood); two stepsons, Billy Mims, Bobby Mims (Diane); 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Roxanna Richardson, Wylean Henderson, Mattie Adams and Dorothy Graves; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday from the New Ephesus Baptist Church, Ruffin with Rev. George Pickard and Rev. Earl Jeffries presiding. The family visitation will be Wednesday from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the church. Funeral arrangements are by Johnson & Sons.
