Formed in Union County, North Carolina on May 3, 1861.
James Alberron - Resided in Caswell Co, NC when he enlisted as a Private on July 15, 1862. Wounded on Dec. 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA.
Howell Boswell - Resided in Caswell Co, NC when he enlisted as a Private on July 15, 1862. Absent on detail as laborer or forage master. Wounded on Sept. 14, 1862 at Crampton's Gap, MD. Returned to duty on Feb. 28, 1863.
Harrison Evans - Resided in Caswell Co, NC when he enlisted as a Private on July 15, 1862. Hospitalized on Aug. 15, 1862. Dropped from the rolls on Sept. 1, 1863.
Drury M. Daniel – Resided in Caswell Co, NC when he enlisted as a Private on July 15, 1862. Hospitalized on Aug. 15, 1862. Never rejoined company. Dropped from the rolls on Sept. 1, 1863.
James T. Malone - Resided in Caswell Co, NC when he enlisted in Wake Co., NC on July 15, 1862. POW on or about Oct. 1, 1864 at Chapin's Farm, VA. Imprisoned at Point Lookout, MD. Took Oath of Allegiance on May 12, 1865 at Point Lookout, MD.
Robert E. Somers - Resided in Caswell Co, NC at time of enlistment. Deserted on Jan. 9, 1863. Returned to duty on Apr. 4, 1864. Deserted to the enemy on Sept. 2, 1864.
Joseph Summers - Resided in Caswell Co, NC at time of enlistment. Wounded in the hand on Dec. 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA. Hospitalized on or about Dec. 14, 1862 at Farmville, VA. Died of wounds on Dec. 27, 1862 in Farmville, VA.
Leven Tesh – Resided in Caswell Co, NC when he enlisted in Wake Co., NC as a Private on July 15, 1862. Hospitalized on or about Aug. 15, 1862. Never rejoined company. Dropped from the rolls on Sept. 1, 1863.
Thomas M. Thompson - Resided in Caswell Co, NC at time of enlistment. Wounded in right thigh on Dec. 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA. Returned to duty on or about Mar. 30, 1863. Wounded on May 5, 1864 at Wilderness, VA. Returned to duty on or about Oct. 30, 1864. POW on Apr. 2, 1865 at Hatcher's Run, VA. Confined on or about Apr. 3, 1865 at Hart's Island, NY Harbor. Took Oath of Allegiance on June 20, 1865 at Hart's Island, NY Harbor.

15th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry: 15th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 5th Volunteers, was organized at Garysburg, North Carolina, in June, 1861. Its members were recruited in the counties of Northampton, Union, Cleveland, Franklin, Harnett, Alamance, and Edgecombe. With about 800 officers and men, the unit was ordered to Yorktown, Virginia. In April, 1862, it had 532 effectives and during the war served under Generals H. Cobb and Cooke. It fought in the Seven Days' Battles, the Maryland Campaign, and at Fredericksburg. In January, 1863, the regiment moved to Charleston and Savannah, then returned to Virginia. After serving in the Richmond area during the Pennsylvania Campaign it was active in numerous conflicts from Bristoe to Cold Harbor. Later it saw action in the Petersburg trenches south of the James River and the Appomattox Campaign. The unit reported 21 killed and 110 wounded at Malvern Hill; 11 killed, 48 wounded, and 124 missing of the 402 engaged at Crampton's Gap; and 3 killed, 52 wounded, and 8 missing of the 133 at Sharpsburg. It sustained 121 casualties at Fredericksburg, 101 at Bristoe, and 113 from May 1 to June 21, 1864. The records show 16 officers and 122 men were present on April 9, 1865. The field officers were Colonels Henry A. Dowd, William McRae, Robert M. McKinney, and William H. Yarborough; Lieutenant Colonels Gray W. Hammond and Ross R. Ihrie; and Majors William F. Green and Robert P. Jerome.
