Researching Old Paintings

Unidentified
The North Carolina Museum of Art provided the following advice for those seeking help with older works of art:

We would be happy to do what we can. We have two options:

First, they may consider contacting a qualified art appraiser, who would be able to assist with research and with a financial assessment. I’ve attached a list of names here: List of Appraisers

Second, the resident may consider coming to the NCMA for Art Day. As a general rule, our curators are often too busy to respond to every inquiry for artwork information from the general public. Instead, we offer a once-yearly "Art Day" in which visitors may bring in works of art to be reviewed, but we will never be able to provide any sort of financial appraisal. Our next Art Day is scheduled for Saturday, 25 September 2010, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. No appointment is necessary, but we suggest that visitors arrive early due to anticipated crowds.
